Is Breast Augmentation Right For You?

If you are considering enlarging your breasts with breast augmentation and whatever your reasons for considering breast surgery, you have many factors to consider.  If you are unsure if the procedure is right for you, then there are questions that you need to answer, steps and things you need to know more about, so it can easily guide you in your decision of having the surgery.

First and foremost if you are considering the surgery, make sure you consult with a cosmetic surgeon.  Look for a doctor who will able to answer all of your questions without pushing you into a decision.  You can ask for his or her credentials.  Ask this professional to show how your body will look like after the surgery.  But normally during the consultation, the doctor will take before and after pictures to determine what he or she will change.  During the consultation period, you will also make certain decisions about your implants and surgery.

Another thing to consider if you are seriously thinking about getting a breast augmentation is to be sure if you can make time investment required for a proper recovery after the procedure.  You need to be prepared to be rather uncomfortable for some time afterwards.  Recovery from breast augmentation can take two to three weeks of bed rest and abstinence from normal activities.  Immediately after the surgery, you’ll be bruised and in pain, so you must keep in mind that you might not be up to working for a week or more after surgery.

Are you financially prepared?  While the cost of plastic surgery has dropped drastically over the past several years, it can still be a blow to the bank account to get a breast augmentation.  Be sure that you can comfortably make payments and have at least a small down payment available, although there are many affordable loan programs to help you finance your dreams, keep in mind that no plastic surgery procedure is worth going into debt.

While everyone hopes their surgery will go smoothly, there are still cases where complications arise, either during or after the surgery.  Although it is rare to suffer from complications, it is better to still find out from your surgeons what the risks are in your particular case so you can make an informed decision.  Research carefully all risks and complications before submitting to the surgery.

Talk to your family and friends about your desire for implants.  These people will have their own opinions and reactions to your breast augmentation.  They may support you, while others may strongly oppose your decision.  So ask yourself if you are prepared for other people’s reaction.  You must be prepared for the possibility of criticisms and negativity by other people.

Before going ahead to the procedure, have a frank conversation with your self.  Why are you really undergoing this kind of surgery? List the pros and cons of breast implant surgery.  Ultimately, breast augmentation should provide you with some form of peace and contentment with yourself and your self image.

Before making such a big decision, it is important to consider the above points.  Breast augmentation end results may seem ideal, but it will be a long process and a big commitment.  But it you think you can handle all the obstacles, and then it may be one of the best decisions you can make.
